From the Sarawak Malay word meaning pink, qalas represents a form of delight which is going beyond its local borders indicated in the use of the Andalus-inspired Q. This carries with it the word alas, handwritten, to represent the home-made nature of the main cake that Qalas Qalas bakes. The multiple meaning of the word alas, one of which means base, in the Qalas Qalas’ kitchen, is laid down one after another generating the flavours of Qalas Qalas Creation. In Qalas Qalas Kek Lapis each layer is tastefully interlaced with various natural flavours in between the original recipe and knowledge handed down by the “inventor”. Qalas Qalas also allows for its mispronunciation, “khalas” to only mean that Qalas Qalas’ products may be savoured right to its last layer.
